Edith is a survivor of the Holocaust, and the book is her memoir, chronicling her experiences throughout her long life, from her childhood with the "normal" dysfunction of a regular family to her time in Auschwitz and other camps, where she encountered Joseph Mengele. The power of her message lies in the idea that the inner workings of a person are the most critical aspect of determining the trajectory of their life.
