A summary of this book:

Søren Kierkegaard was a hugely influential Christian thinker and existential philosopher who lived in Denmark in the first half of the 1800s. He was hugely famous in his nation, was a very complex man, and died at just 42. He left a huge body of writing and influenced generations of thinkers after him. This is a recent biography about his life and his works.

What did you like about the book?

Clare Carlisle was interested in him as a person, and was honest about his successes and his failures. A philosopher is not an easy person to write about, but she kept it interesting and engaging.

What did you not like about this book?

It’s quite hard to follow existential philosophy, and so sections of the book that dealt with his writing were tougher to follow. But that comes with the territory.

Who would benefit most from reading this book?

Anyone interested in Christian thought or the history of some influential figures who have shaped thinking.

Do you recommend this book?

Yes, without hesitation

If someone reads this book, they should be aware of the following...

It’s not an easy read, but it’s worthwhile to understand - at the very least - some of the personal weaknesses of famous figures. I found that quite helpful.
