Since Oxygen Life Church was planted in 2002, we’ve been led by the two greatest commandments – to love God with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength, and to love our neighbours. We want to love God passionately, love people sincerely and make disciples of Jesus.
Jesus Christ is, and will always be, at the heart of the gospel message. He offers forgiveness, He offers eternal life and He offers Himself! The power of the gospel is not just in the forgiveness of sins, but in the promise of an ongoing, intimate relationship with Him.
That’s our desire as a church: Knowing Jesus more and more, coming to maturity in Him, making everything about Him. Jesus is our saviour, our righteousness, our healer, our great high priest, our faithful friend and the head of our church – His body. We want to live for Him, preach His crucifixion and resurrection, bring Him glory and live our lives as worship to Him. As A.W. Tozer said, “He is so vastly wonderful, so utterly and completely delightful, that He can, without anything other than Himself, meet and overflow the deepest demands of our total nature, mysterious and deep as that nature may be.”
It’s our privilege to know Him, to be known by Him, and to make Him known.
As L. Newbigin wrote, “The gracious indwelling of the God with His people is not an invitation to settle down and forget the rest of the world: it is a summons to mission, for the Lord who dwells with His people is the one who goes before them in the pillar of fire and cloud.” We are not called to mediocre, safe, suburban Christianity, but to a life of adventure in Him as we are led by His Holy Spirit.
So we want to obey the mandate from Jesus to “go into all the world and make disciples of all nations.”
The method is simple: Win the lost. Make disciples of them. Plant churches with these new believers by recognising, raising and releasing the saints into their respective giftings and calls. Ensure that healthy local churches are established by equipping ALL the saints for ministry. Impact cities, regions, and nations as those believers continue to spread the GOOD NEWS of the Kingdom of God wherever they may be.
There can only ever be one true leader of the church, and that is Jesus Christ. In Colossians 1:18, He’s described as “the head of the body, the church,” by Paul.
Oxygen Life Church is not just a body of believers – we are HIS body of believers, and in the end we will give an account of ourselves to Him. The only reason that we are a church is because of Him, and we will only be able to truly be His people on this earth if we honour Him as our highest authority, both individually and as a people.
Since planting Oxygen Life in 2002, we’ve met in rented venues that were hired from week to week...
Oxygen Life Church has formalised a partnership with a growing global community of churches called Four12. This partnership of churches is headed up by Andrew Selley, lead elder of Joshua Generation Church in Cape Town.
Having recognised Andrew’s apostolic gifting and partnered with him since Oxygen Life was planted, the partnership with Four12 was simply a more formalised linking in with what we recognise as a pattern for healthy churches.
